Choy Lay Fut Buck Sing Gwoon Australia was originally established in Perth in 1966, being the first known Kung Fu school in Australia to teach authentic traditional Shaolin Martial Arts at a time when Chinese Kung Fu was relatively unheard of in this country.
Arriving from Hong Kong, Master Dave Lacey, and his twin brother Vince became the first true pioneers of Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu in Australia. Over the last 3 decades, the reputation and fame of the Choy Lay Fut Buck Sing Gwoon has spread worldwide. Both brothers now teach classes in San Francisco, with Melbourne classes continuing under the wing of Gary Shambrooke (Jackie Chan's Mr Nice Guy).
Master Dave Lacey's martial arts skills, and his reputation as a kung fu fighter in Hong Kong, has made him a well known figure in Chinese martial arts circles of South-East Asia, winning the prestigious title "Black Panther" - the name given to the chosen top five fighters of Choy Lay Fut selected to fight in full contact grudge matches against rival martial arts schools. Unafraid to reproach criticisms of traditional Chinese martial arts by unscrupulous martial arts instructors of so called "modern day self-made non-classical martial arts systems", Master Dave Lacey is well known for his outspoken defense to injustices in Martial Arts circles and for upholding the good name of Choy Lay Fut and his school's honor and reputation.
After 24 years in Perth, Master Dave Lacey decided to move on and teach Choy Lay Fut in Melbourne.
In 1996, Master Dave Lacey moved to San Francisco's Bay Area, opening a Buck Sing Gwoon in America; appointing Gary Shambrooke as the chief Melbourne instructor and DAI SI HING (Big Brother) via the traditional initiation ceremony of swearing aliegence to TAM SAM and the 10 oaths of Buck Sing Gwoon. Sifu Gary Shambrooke, who is known for TV appearances and films such as Jackie Chan's "Mr. Nice Guy", took the TEN OATHS promoting him to the level of Master / Sifu.
Martial Arts enthusiasts who are seeking a more exciting martial arts style now have a chance to learn the dynamic fighting art of Choy Lay Fut. If you happen to live in San Francisco you can experience learning from such a prominent master as Sifu Lacey, or by his long-time loyal disciples in Perth and Melbourne.
The Melbourne Buck Sing Gwoon is not a commercial martial arts school. It is in itself a Temple dedicated to the teachings of Sifu Lacey and Tam Sam. We welcome all ages to enjoy Choy Lay Fut in an atmosphere that is friendly, motivating and effective.
